(May 4, 2010) Storm Technologies, Inc. CEO Richard Storm was named 2010 Business Person of the Year by the Stanly Community College (SCC) Phi Beta Lambda (PBL)chapter.

Phi Beta Lambda is a national leadership organization for college students in business-related programs, and the award was presented by chapter members during a recent tour of the Albemarle facility. Speaking on behalf of the group were Free Enterprise Project Chair Stephanie Roach and Chapter President Mark Mauldin.

An advocate of educational training programs, Storm has been involved in local PBL activities throughout the year, including speaking at a college-wide Free Enterprise Day Convocation sponsored by the chapter.

“The PBL crest includes the words service, education, and progress, and we feel Mr. Storm exemplifies these characteristics as a community business leader,” commented Ms. Roach. The PBL chapter has been presenting a “Business Person of the Year” most years since 1981, always using “an example to be followed” as a major criteria in the selection, according to Mauldin.

At the 2010 PBL State Leadership Conference, Mr. Storm and Storm Technologies Human Resource Director Charlotte Maness will be presenting two of six Leadership Development Seminars held as part of the conference program. Mr. Storm’s topic is “Six Pointers for Success in Today’s Competitive Market,” and Ms. Maness’ is “Celebrate You!”.

This past fall, Storm received the Governor’s Award for Workforce Development and the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year. He is a member of the Stanly County YMCA Board of Directors and the Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades Board of Trustees, as well as an Executive Board member for Friends of Scouting.

“The SCC PBL is glad to call attention to outstanding local business leaders like Mr. Storm,” Ms. Roach said. “They inspire us and encourage us as we undertake our educational programs to become leaders along with them.”
